Five persons, two children and three women, were killed and six others injured in a road accident at Yerra Kaluva bridge near Anantapalli in Nallajerla mandal of West Godavari in the early hours of Friday.
The accident took place when a lorry carrying cement from Eluru rammed into an RTC bus coming from Rajamahendravaram as one of its tyres burst, killing the five bus passengers on the spot.
While four of the deceased belong to one family, another was said to be from Odisha.
The deceased were identified as Gelam Lakshmi (50), Kapusetty Jyothi (37), Satya Santoshi (6) and Siva Sai (13), all from Tuni, and Palla Savithramma (60).
The police said 19 persons were travelling in the bus. Pushpa Kumari, the conductor, was among the injured.
All the injured persons were admitted in the Tadepalligudem area hospital. Two of them were administered first-aid and discharged.
The bodies of the victims were shifted to the area hospital for a post-mortem examination.
